Your mobile phone can do a lot of things.
Reliably call 9-1-1, however, is not one of them.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to LifeLink, our new free-to-all mobile app that enables your smartphone to accurately and instantly connect to emergency services – no matter where you are. Available now on iOS and Android devices.
So, why us, and why this app?
Since launching Haven Life, we’ve sought ways to make buying quality life insurance as simple as possible so that you can protect the people you love financially. But we knew that, eventually, we also wanted to provide you with benefits beyond financial protection — benefits that could deepen the safety and well-being for you and yours.
When you consider the FCC estimates that more than 70% of 9-1-1 calls come from mobile phones, most of which can’t be properly located, the need for LifeLink becomes clear. And while emergency responders do an incredible job saving lives, the reality is they are limited by technology developed in the 1960s for landlines – not our everywhere, anywhere smartphones we carry with us today.
LifeLink users can connect to 9-1-1 at the touch of a button and precisely transmit their location, share critical data (such as allergies and blood type) and simultaneously notify all of their emergency contacts. In situations where users are unable to speak, text messages can be used to communicate with 9-1-1.
But maybe the most essential LifeLink feature of all is Family Connect. Our desire to look after our partners and children doesn’t go away when they walk out the door, or we head to the office for the day. If anything, those feelings just intensify. Family Connect not only lets loved ones share their locations with each other in real-time, but it enables you to call 9-1-1 on a family member’s behalf remotely.
Haven Life’s LifeLink isn’t just for your phone, it’s for your peace of mind. We sincerely hope you’ll download the app and tell those you care about to do the same.
LifeLink App FAQs
How does the app work?
In the LifeLink app, advanced intelligence actively manages connectivity to transmit key information. What this means is that LifeLink can connect users to emergency dispatchers over multiple channels (including WiFi, LTE, 4G, 3G, 2G), helping reach 9-1-1 in situations with challenging connectivity or limited bandwidth.
When one of the four tiles is touched, your GPS location and type of emergency are transmitted to a compatible 9-1-1 dispatcher system. Depending on the dispatch center’s capabilities and when a data connection is available, additional data, including relevant medical and demographic data, is also transmitted over the data channel or via voice if you can’t speak.
Simultaneous to this data connection, a voice channel is opened. Depending on your signal strength, this may consist of a seamless VoIP connection or your phone may ring with an inbound call from 9-1-1. In the event of extremely weak signal strength, LifeLink will revert to a native 9-1-1 dial on your device.
Once your session with 9-1-1 has ended, LifeLink automatically notifies your emergency contacts via text message and email with key information about the emergency.
Why would someone use LifeLink in an emergency?
Americans spent $21 billion last year on home security systems, yet 82% of violent crime occurs outside the home. You and your family are increasingly mobile – it’s time that you have a reliable way to reach help and each other during an emergency.
LifeLink is a transformative mobile security app. In an emergency, LifeLink transmits unprecedented information to compatible 9-1-1 dispatcher systems, while bringing the family together by notifying loved ones that an emergency has occurred. LifeLink provides enhanced data flow to first responders and loved ones in an emergency – sending unparalleled information when it matters most.
Is the app a replacement for 911?
No, LifeLink is not 9-1-1 nor is it a substitute for 9-1-1. LifeLink is a commercial service provider that places calls into the 9-1-1 system. The technology manages connectivity during a 9-1-1 call and enables 9-1-1 dispatcher systems to receive data. The LifeLink service is intended to enhance 9-1-1 by: providing data beyond voice, enabling texting if verbal communication is not possible, and promoting faster communication. You can still dial 9-1-1 from any phone that the app is installed on, should you choose not to use the LifeLink service.
What is LifeLink doing to protect users’ privacy?
LifeLink uses infrastructure designed with strong safeguards in place to protect customer data and privacy. The infrastructure is protected by extensive network and security monitoring systems, and the infrastructure components are continuously scanned and tested. LifeLink employs the same encryption data transmission technologies used by leading financial institutions to maintain confidentiality.
What operating systems is LifeLink compatible with and what devices does the app work on?
LifeLink is designed for iOS and Android. You can currently find LifeLink on the App Store and Google Play.
What is Family Connect?
Family Connect is a built-in feature of LifeLink that can be utilized at no additional charge. With Family Connect, users can notify loved ones of their location and see family members’ real-time locations. The “Check in” button lets users share their location with all their loved ones and the “Are you ok” button allows users to ask specific loved ones whether they are ok or not. If a loved one responds that they are not ok, users can call 9-1-1 on their behalf, transmitting that person’s location and personal information to the closest dispatcher center. When a user calls 9-1-1 for a loved one, the user will be connected to the 9-1-1 center closest to the loved one, and that 9-1-1 center will see the loved one’s location on their screen.
Is there any purchase required for LifeLink?
The LifeLink app is free for one year for all users of IOS and Android devices. After the first year, users who want to continue the service will have to pay the standard fee for the individual or family plans. Typically, our app provider, RapidSOS, charges a monthly fee of about $5 for a family plan and $3 for an individual plan.
You do not have to be a policyholder or apply for life insurance with Haven Life to download LifeLink.
