Unfortunately, you don’t get to pick when and where you start to feel sick. (And even if you could, is there really an ideal time and place?) And unfortunately-er, you also don’t get to pick which doctor will see you when, and you also can’t stop your clinic from, say, charging you more to, say, see your doctor on the weekends.
If only there were a place with convenient hours, with more than 1,100 nationwide locations, a staff of high-quality practitioners—all with a flexible and affordable walk-in policy. If only…
CVS MinuteClinic history
CVS MinuteClinic began life as QuickMedx back in 2000, when it pioneered the idea of walk-in clinics in the United States. Today, there are more than 1,100 CVS MinuteClinics in 33 states (and the District of Columbia), each offering high-quality care with a more modern, convenient approach to walk-in appointments than what you’d find at a traditional doctor’s office.
The company has also branched out into such 21st century services as video visits, which means medical practitioners are available 24 hours a day. After all, as technology advances, it only makes sense that your medical experience advances, too.
CVS MinuteClinic cost
CVS MinuteClinic offers a a wide-range of family medical services at an affordable price. MinuteClinic also accepts most insurance plans, though costs will vary based on a number of factors.
Eligible Haven Term policyholders are able to take advantage of a 15% discount on any single MinuteClinic service – including Start to Stop smoking cessation, Cholesterol screening, Vitamin B12 injection, and weight loss assessment, through Haven Life Plus.
How CVS MinuteClinic works
With CVS MinuteClinic, getting in to see a medical practitioner couldn’t be easier. Simply go to minuteclinic.com, type in your ZIP code, and say when you’d like to see someone. If you’ve ever booked a dinner reservation online, you can handle CVS MinuteClinic.
The process of booking an appointment includes:
- Choosing a location that’s convenient for you. (And because MinuteClinics are located inside select Target and CVS locations, you can even swing by while running errands.)
- Perusing the wait times listed right on site, and choosing your location accordingly.
- Providing basic info, including the reason for your visit.
Of course, if your reason for visiting a MinuteClinic is, well, last minute, you can bypass the appointment process and just go directly to your most convenient MinuteClinic location. Walk-ins are welcome. And when you’re done, you can pay your bill online.
The fine print: The Haven Life Plus MinuteClinic discount cannot be used in conjunction with health insurance, and there are 17 states without MinuteClinic locations: (Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming). In addition, the Haven Life Plus rider is not available in Florida, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota and Washington.
Who CVS MinuteClinic is right for?
Just like taking care of your car or your house, taking care of your body means you might occasionally require a level of care that goes above and beyond routine maintenance. If you’re going on a trip, you might need a vaccination. If you’re not feeling well, you might need a prescription for some meds. Taking care of these needs can help you live longer, happier, and healthier.
If you’re in one of the following situations, a CVS MinuteClinic might be useful:
- You are coming down with something. This is perhaps the most common reason you’ll visit a MinuteClinic—you’re not feeling well, and you need to see someone sooner rather than later. Again, this is arguably the most convenient way to get the attention you need.
- You are about to travel, and need a vaccination. Rather than waiting to set up a doctor’s appointment—or paying a surcharge to see someone on the weekend—you can get a variety of shots at a MinuteClinic before your upcoming big trip.
- You have chronic health struggles. Maybe you’re a smoker. Maybe you’re overweight. Maybe you’re concerned about your cholesterol. The good thing is you recognize the opportunity here, and the better thing is that a CVS MinuteClinic can help. You can get cholesterol screenings, weight loss assessments, the Start to Stop smoking cessation service, even a B12 injection at many CVS MinuteClinic locations.
Helpful tips for using CVS MinuteClinic
Booking your appointment only takes a few minutes, but there are a few things you should know to make your experience even more enjoyable. (Okay, maybe not enjoyable—getting a strep test isn’t exactly fun. But at least a little less painful.)
Download the mobile app
With the MinuteClinic mobile app, available for iOS and Android phones, you can book appointments through your phone (and even avoid minor annoyances like having to re-enter your contact info). You can also pay your bill, check your insurance and find the nearest location (including wait times).
Get a Virtual Care appointment
This being the future, you can also book an appointment through your phone to see a nurse practitioner or physician assistant on your phone. (In select states only.) This is available 24/7 through the aforementioned mobile app.
Regular health care appointments can help you stay healthy throughout the year. And for those moments when life is a little too busy to get to your regular doctor, CVS MinuteClinic can be a great solution for not just you, but your family.
