From my experience, the most difficult conversations often revolve around finances and death. Both topics tend to elicit feelings of dread and fear and often result in avoidance altogether.
This needs to change.
September is Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) and, for our industry, this has become a month dedicated to raising awareness among Americans about what life insurance is and how it helps to financially protect our loved ones. The aim of this program is to close the gap of the 40% of Americans without life insurance, many of which likely need a policy in order for their families to financially survive without them.
While it’s certainly uncomfortable to imagine my own death, I can say with utmost certainty that I want my wife and two children to be financially secure if I were to die unexpectedly. That’s why I purchased life insurance. More of us need to understand our life insurance needs and have the discussion with those who rely on us financially.
There’s no better time to educate ourselves than the present.
Join Us
As part of LIAM, we will encourage people to #TalkAboutIt in order to open up the dialogue around the importance of life insurance. Starting today, we will share one video every day in September on all our social channels – Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (pick your favorite). These videos, which are sourced from across the Internet, will hopefully educate you, move you, make you laugh, and, maybe even make you a little bit uncomfortable. All videos will be posted using #TalkAboutIt.
Join us in opening the discussion around life insurance and overall financial preparedness. There’s no reason to fear life insurance or the reaper (as today’s video so masterfully illustrates). It will only leave you feeling empowered that you’ve taken a significant financial step to protecting your loved ones.
Let’s Kick Off Day 1
If you have a favorite video or life insurance story to share, we encourage you to join the conversation using #TalkAboutIt or to follow the industry campaign using #LIAM15.
