Make aging less hard with Haven Life Plus

Five ways the Haven Life Plus bonus rider — available at no cost to eligible Haven Term policyholders— can ease the stress of getting older.

What is “old,” these days? Tom Cruise is 60, but hangs off buildings and flies fighter planes for work. Liam Neeson is 70, and continues to showcase his “very particular set of skills” to audiences around the world. Paul McCartney is 80, and still travels the world as a touring musician. So it’s hard to say who is “old,” based only on age.

Nonetheless, for most of us, aging, whenever (and however) it actually happens, brings challenges. Memory issues, disrupted sleep, aches and pains, existential dread — you know, fun stuff like that. But Haven Life Plus is here to help. What’s Haven Life Plus? It’s a bonus rider for eligible Haven Term policyholders, and here are some ways that it can help you feel young(ish), fit, healthy and happier as the years fly by.

In this article:

It jogs your memory

As you get old, it’s not uncommon for your memory to go the way of your knees—still there, but not quite what it was. To avoid mislaying things, losing important documents, and forgetting passwords, try LifeSite (available at no cost to eligible Haven Life customers). It’s a super-secure (military grade), easy-to-use digital vault that can hold a vast array of different information, from property deeds to medical records to photos to streaming service passwords. You control your own account, but you can grant family members access privileges, which is useful if you find yourself needing logistical help as you age.

But even before you get to that point, LifeSite will help you navigate mid- to late-adulthood matters, whether you’re managing a household, keeping track of vaccination records for your kids or your pets, and, of course, making sure account info for your term life insurance policy is somewhere safe and sound.

It helps you worry less about your own mortality

It’s a fact of life: Aging has a way of making you ponder your own demise. It makes sense, of course, but that doesn’t make it fun. Sorting out your will and your end-of-life wishes won’t keep the grim reaper away, but it will mean you spend less time worrying about when he’ll come wandering up the driveway. Haven Life Plus offers two ways to help with that — and both ways are (say it with us) available at no cost to eligible Haven Term policyholders.

Trust & Will allows you to make a legally binding will or trust in less time than it takes a really old person to climb a flight of stairs. (It’s also less dangerous.) You can do it all online, including making updates as you pass through whatever life stages await you (including marriage and divorce, having children, changing jobs, etc.).

Lantern allows you to specify what you want to happen when you die, from what music should be played at your funeral (and whether you even want one) to who should deal with your social media accounts. Want a Viking funeral, but don’t feel like arguing about it with your family? Just document it with Lantern and get on with your life.

And sure, these seem like concerns for once you’re getting up there in years. But the fact is, these are matters worth handling sooner rather than later, because you never know. And as we said, both Trust & Will and Lantern make updating your wishes easy as time passes by.

It helps you sleep

There is a stereotype that old people spend all their time napping under patchwork blankets in their special chair, but in fact getting old can play hell with your sleep patterns. As you get older you may find yourself waking up at odd hours and finding it more challenging to get proper sleep. TimeShifter, an anti-jet lag app with a no-cost subscription for eligible Haven Life customers, will help you make the most of your sleep, even if you’re not traveling any further than your garden or the local golf course.

And again, as you climb the ladder of adulthood, you might find yourself taking on more responsibilities at work (including traveling to far-flung locations for in-person meetings) and, perhaps, attempting more ambitious travel. (After all, your kids aren’t going to remember visiting Paris as a baby, so you might want to save a once-in-a-lifetime trip until they — and you — are older). TimeShifter makes that kind of travel a little bit less painful.

It deals with aches and pains

Speaking of pain, we don’t mean that Haven Life Plus makes aches and pains go away—we’re insurers, not magicians. But Plus does include something that enables you to deal with bruises and scrapes more efficiently: MinuteClinic, a walk-in clinic at Target and CVS. It’s good for all kinds of minor medical matters, and it’s also a good place to get vaccinations, which are far from a minor matter once you’re over 65. There’s a reason doctors recommend flu and shingles vaccines to older people—once you’ve reached the age where you get discounts at cinemas and on public transport, those illnesses are no joke.

And again, this is something you can use for your kids as they join sports leagues, climbing camps, star riding bikes, and otherwise pass through the rough-and-tumble years of childhood. (And if you happen to take a baseball in the nose while playing catch with your live-armed teen, well, your next appointment will be that much easier — and more affordable.)

It keeps you fit, whatever that means for you

The Haven Life Plus bonus rider includes a no-cost subscription to Aaptiv for eligible Haven Life customers. Aaptiv is an exercise app that’s full to bursting with different options for different skill levels, which is ideal because maintaining strength, muscle mass and bone density is critical as you age.

However much you want to (or are able to) exert yourself at any age, Aaptiv has options ranging from full workouts to guided walks and all points in between. There are things you can do at home, outside, or wherever you happen to be.
